Vampire Vednesday!

It's everyone's favorite day for talking about vampires! Vampire Vednesday!

Did you know there are real vampires? Or at least people who claim to be vampires? I don't think they sleep in coffins, though apparently some of them do have heightened senses of smell, and therefore avoid garlic.

Website Sanguinarius: The Vampire Support Page is "a site designed for those who are or may be blood-drinkers, psychic vampires/energy vampires, and 'Vampyres' (vampyre lifestylers)."
Vlad the Impaler. The original.

The site offers a list of vampire resources, an FAQ page, a message board, and even its own lexicon. The website itself is one of dozens if not hundreds of similar sites, though Sanguinarius was certainly the most extensive real vampire website I found. It's absolutely huge (that's what she said).

So what makes a real vampire? No one, as far as I can tell, is claiming to be able to fly or that they are immortal. For the most part real vampires just seem to be people who really like to drink blood. Yum. The site is overflowing with warnings about only ingesting blood if you have to and always getting parental consent (Mom, may I drink Johnny's blood?), but my question is, how do you decide you are a bloodsucker?

The author of the site says that she developed the need to drink blood after ingesting some of her own post oral surgery. I can think of worse ways to figure out that you like the taste of blood, so good for her.

Also, can someone please tell me what an "energy vampire" is? That sounds like a Con Edison commercial.
